Tested: Ergon GX-1 Grips
Coachlevi.com &bull Sep 2, 2010
I was hesitant to purchase the grips because I had felt them before in the packaging, and they just seemed weird! However, I heard many good things about them, so when PricePoint.com had them on sale for $32 (normally $40,) I grabbed a pair. This was very easy. The grips just slide on, then you tighten the… Full Story »

The second book
Up in Alaska &bull Sep 1, 2010
I've been keeping this blog for nearly five years, and every so often, I create a post that I come precariously close to deleting before I publish it - whether it's too intimate, too "off subject" or too personal. The previous post was one of those. I "wrote" most of it in my head while driving home from Salt Lake City, sleep-deprived and trying to process a swirl of emotions. I tapped it all out after work on Monday, late at night. Then I read it over and decided that I didn't want to publish it. I thought it straddled… Full Story »

One Wheel Vs Two Wheels : Bicycle Trailers
CommuteByBike.com &bull Aug 27, 2010
For heavy hauling most trailers I have seen, especially child trailers, are two wheels. The two wheels allow you to distribute the weight over the surface and into two rolling wheels instead of one. I've used the BOB Yak and several different models of Burleys so I have… Full Story »

Already with the guilt
Up in Alaska &bull Aug 25, 2010
It's been a simple week so far: Work, arrange apartment, bike, run, late dinner, arrange apartment, upload more photos to the Shutterfly archive, sleep. Yesterday I didn't get out of the house until 7:30. I rode my Karate Monkey 10 miles up to the Ravine Trail, parked, and began running. I knew I'd be out after dark as it was and planned to only run for 20 minutes or so. I turned on… Full Story »

Moving mountains: Local riders tackle Mount Washington - Bennington Banner
Google Cycling news &bull Aug 24, 2010
PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. -- Many of the top cyclists in the world agree that the Mount Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb makes for the most difficult two-wheeled ascent on the planet. It boasts an average pitch of 12.5 percent for 7.6 miles, with several sections so steep that upward progress - at any speed - is a victory in itself. Anything over 13 percent, I felt like I was going backward," said Walker Savidge, a… Full Story »

BikeRun
Up in Alaska &bull Aug 23, 2010
For my 31st birthday, I resolved to get more serious about running. Not only for reasons of fitness, but because of the opportunities it will ultimately open up (there are so many places where bikes can't go, and I can't go nearly as far as I'd like.) Every fall for the past three years, I've attempted to increase my running from near-nothing to at least something, and every fall I've failed early and often. I think this is because it's so difficult to motivate to be a beginner at something. Obviously I have to start short… Full Story »

Mt. Washington Auto Road Press Release:August 21, 2010 - Pinkham Notch, N.H.Forty-two-year-old Nico Toutenhoofd of Boulder, Colorado drew on experience and careful pacing to win the 38th annual Mt.
