    Pinkbike.com &bull Feb 15, 2012

Jeff Steber and Pinkbike's Mike Levy talk about the challenges of manufacturing handmade aluminum bikes in the US.Intense has a storied past as a brand synonymous with downhill racing, but began life as a part-time project in Jeff Steber's garage back in 1990. Steber's first frame, the Spyder, used a simple Horst Link and MacPherson Strut combination to control its short travel, but it also used sealed bearing pivots - something that nearly no other manufacturer… Full Story »

  6. Knolly Nuggets from Interbike

    NSMB.com: Gear &bull Sep 22, 2011

For the last few years at Interbike, Knolly has had a modest booth in the back corner of the exhibition hall. They've always been in the same corner, which makes them easy to find when it's time for Noel and his gang to hand out the yearly edition of the Knolly shot glass and copious amounts of single malt. Everyone who's anyone knows of this tradition and looks forward to it as much as a lap dance from the Goddess of your favourite strip club. Perhaps you can imagine my surprise when during the first day of the indoor show… Full Story »

  9. Book giveaway

    Up in Alaska &bull Jun 16, 2011

I've mostly stayed off my feet this week in a pre-emptive - though hopefully unnecessary -hurty-foot recovery plan to avoid plantar fasciitis. Instead, I completed three solid bike rides, one mountain and two road, all in the 25-to-30-mile, 3,500-feet-of-climbing range. Where I live, at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains, there a few appealing routes that don't involve at least 3,000 feet of gain. I can… Full Story »

Regional Champs for years comprised of the main pretenders; the Scots, the Welsh and the English. Over the past few years however this has been on the change and now there are more championship events than ever. This weekend saw the inaugural North West Champs brought to the table by Borderline Events and the North West MTB Centre. Held within spitting distance of Manchester, the location was Farmer Johns in Marple, a venue that's been in existence for a few years now but which has stayed relatively low key outside of the immediate area. With a BDS event taking place… Full Story »

  12. Whatcha think?

    Somafeed &bull May 13, 2011

Our friends at IRD just sent us this 50.4 BCD TA/Campy-inspired retro-crank. The chainring sizes are 53/39. The chainline is 43.5mm and the BB axle length is 115mm. We're thinking about carrying them in the SOMA store..would they tickle your fancy? My take on the 50.4 crank is that it's a great idea that nobody has done right, including TA. Specifically:TA: The newest batch are insanely expensive and it sounds like they still won't work well with modern front derailleurs. Also the bolts are fiddly and require you to carry a box… Full Story »
