Moab: Rekindled
Epic Riding. Epic Writing. &bull Jan 3, 2012
I love Moab. But recently, it had been relegated down the list of my favorite places to ride. I had simply grown tired of Moab. Yesterday that changed. 43 miles of redrock and singletrack rekindled the ... Full Story »

Camber Expert Carbon 29: First Impressions
Twenty Nine Inches &bull Dec 4, 2011
Editor's Note: Grannygear has a few rides under his belt on the new camber Expert Carbon 29 full suspension bike now and is ready to share his First Impressions. If you have missed his previous "Out Of The Box" post, go check that out here. There were a few things I really wanted to find out about the Camber. Would I miss the Mini Brain rear shock? Is a Pro Pedal equipped, Horst Link bike like this off-the-back or dated compared to the newer short link stuff? Would 110mm of travel be good enough to have it feel like a… Full Story »

52 Winter Trails
NSMB.com: Home Page &bull Dec 2, 2011
I usually ride more in the off season. During the warm months the bike business gets pretty busy. I get out, but not as often as I like and maybe not on always on trails or bikes of my choosing. I feel pretty lucky to live where riding year round is often the norm. There are some times when our trails are closed by snowfall but we can often get up there in January. What's better than riding during an inversion, like we had for the first week of the Olympics, when it's warm and dry on the trails, and… Full Story »

Nelson
NSMB.com: Home Page &bull Oct 19, 2011
I grew up in Nelson. From the age of 4 to the age of 16, a small mountain town was pretty much all I knew. I learned to ski there, discovering the powder, steeps and moguls at Whitewater. I also first thought of myself as a mountain biker there, way back in 1986. I was 12, but for some reason I got it in my head that mountain biking was what I wanted to do. These days starting to mountain bike in Nelson at age 12 puts you wayyyy behind the eight ball. Kids race at the 2011 Nelson Fat… Full Story »

The clouds cleared the dust gun and the… Full Story »

Fall in the Grand Canyon
Up in Alaska &bull Oct 11, 2011
My dad and I have created a tradition around hiking across the Grand Canyon in one day during the second weekend in October. Our first trip together was in 2004, with a group of my dad's friends. Back then, rim-to-rim was a daunting prospect - 25 miles and 6,000 feet of climbing under possibly intense heat. I trained specifically for the outing, mostly by hiking to peaks in the Stansbury Mountains and riding my touring bike up a canyon in the Oquirrhs (I lived in Tooele, Utah, at the time.) The night before, in our hotel room on the North… Full Story »

Cranking the generator
Up in Alaska &bull Oct 10, 2011
I planned to post about hiking the Grand Canyon with my dad, but ended up finishing my Slickrock 100 pacer report first. This time around, I left Jacob Lake, Arizona, in the late morning on race day. My dad's tiny Toyota pickup puttered north as the last wisps of autumn's first snowfall faded from the ground. The plan was to drive six hours to Moab, where I arranged to meet my friend Danni at the Slickrock 100, a brand new 100-mile trail race in the redrock desert. I hadn't seen Danni since I moved away from Montana in March, and… Full Story »
